Kefalonia's Beaches
Kefalonia is renowned as a beach lover's paradise and it is hard to know which one to choose next.
Below is a guide to just a few of the beaches - there are many more and you can have enormous fun exploring and finding your favourites.
It's very hard to get lost !
South Coast - sandy
South Coast beaches (gallery above) - mainly sandy
Avithos Beach
A very short drive from the villa, Avithos is a well kept secret and has umbrellas and beach beds along one section of the beach and a large expanse of virgin beach for those who like to bring their own umbrellas - there are 2 excellent tavernas; in the summer season it has an elegant and sophisticated beach bar.
Gradakia Beach
On the outskirts of Lassi a delightful sandy beach with very safe swimming, padded sun-beds, a beach bar serving cocktails and light lunches. Waiter service on the beach is an added bonus.
Ammes / Al Helis
These beaches are also close to the villa. They offer shallow clear waters, soft golden sands and are both backed by a clay rocky back drop.
Trapezaki
2 beaches with a small harbour dividing them. Beach bar with umbrellas and sun beds. Excellent beachside Taverna offering a great dining experience - Denis Restaurant.
Makris Gialos Beach, Lassi
Situated a short walk down from the main road in Lassi. It is probably the most popular beach along this coastline as it has gently shelving sands, crystal clear waters an excellent selection of water-sports and one of the most modern beach bars on the island. It is busy during the high season and if you are looking for 'quiet' it's not for you - but it is the place where the young love to hang out. As the waters are very shallow this is a perfect place for families with small children. (Blue Flag.)
Lourdas Beach
This is a silver stretch of fine shingle backed by turquoise blue clear waters. The sea is really quite deep in parts so a little care needs to be taken but there is a life guard on duty in the central part of the beach. There is a good selection of tavernas and bars to choose from. There is also a small selection of water sports to hire.
Pessada
A small harbour (from where a ferry to Zakynthos departs in high season) with a delightful beach.
St. Thomas
Small and intimate - no umbrellas and very little shade so take an umbrella. 2 tavernas.
Mounda
7 miles of sandy beach which is never crowded - umbrellas and beach beds, use of the hotel pool and taverna.
Skala
Popular resort with a long fine shingle beach and lots of tavernas.

North Coast - shingle, giving crystal clear water.
Northern Kefalonia - gallery above - shingle beaches resulting in incredible clear water
Anti Samos
Located 3 km south of the village of Sami and accessed by a road that takes you through breathtaking scenery this is a sweep of white pebbles lapped by violet sea in a picturesque setting. It is a beautiful beach with clear waters but has become very commercial with a lot of sun beds and lively tavernas. Quiet it is not - but the youngsters love it.
Myrtos Beach
One of the most photographed beaches in Greece. From up above it looks like a fine white sand beach however once on the beach you will find it is shingle and covered with smooth, little, white pebbles. The bay is nestled in to white cliffs making the whole effect very dramatic. It is a real sun trap and can get very hot, but BEWARE - the current can become very strong and it is a dangerous place to swim with steep shelving and large waves. There are limited facilities which include sun beds and umbrellas and a small beach shack offering drinks. It's a beach for admiring - from a distance, but one that everyone should see.
Foki and Emplisi Beaches
These are 2 gems. Beautifully clear water with superb swimming and good for snorkelling around the rocks. Foki is reached via a track through the pine forest - you need to be relatively fit to reach it and certainly wearing the right shoes.
Assos
A must visit ! Stunning drive down to the village - extremely pretty with some lovely tavernas and houses along the horseshoe shaped bay.
Fiskardo
Fiskardo is the only part of Kefalonia that retains much of its original Venetian architecture, making it a really special place on the island to visit. A buzzing marina and a haven for the yachting fraternity.
The Paliki Peninsula - different and natural
Take the car ferry from Argostoli over to Lixouri (15 minutes drive on drive off ) , explore the peninsula and then drive back.
